Junior Section - Under 17's

The U 17s and colts train on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm and Sundays at 10:00 am, with each age group being separately managed and having their own fixture list. Occasional joint friendly matches are planned to help integrate the age groups and the Colts are encouraged to train and play with the seniors if they so wish.

Team Manager – Jo Waterman

Jo looks after the management and administration of the U 17s, co-ordinates the Sunday cheerleaders, and also ensures that the teams are fed afterwards, a task she also helps with for the seniors on Saturdays. Can always be counted on to help out, thanks mainly to a weakness for bad Elvis impressions.

Head Coach – Stuart Saunders

Stuart’s first experience of rugby at Grimsby was when, due to lack of a ball, he was thrown back and forwards between his dad and a club stalwart who should know better and therefore will remain nameless. Despite this he has gone on to play regular 1st team rugby for the club and, having passed his level 2 coaching awards has taken on the HC tracksuit with a new found maturity. Quietly spoken and reserved when on duty, Stuart undergoes a remarkable transformation when he gets within 5 m of a karaoke machine.

Coach - Pete Waterman

Pete has recently passed his level one coaching award and returned to playing after admitting to having a pair of boots and being volunteered by El Presidente. Never shy to help out in the kitchen or behind the bar Pete also fills the roll of stato on a match day.

Coach – Matt Hood

Matt joined the club in the 1975/6 season and was part of the first Colts team Grimsby fielded. Has played for every team within the club (apart from the ladies) and took an early interest in coaching when an ill timed comment saw him dropped from the firsts to the fifths proving that the pen really is mightier than the sword. This is his third coaching stint having previously been involved with the juniors in the early 80’s, and the Colts in the 90’s. Usually found in charge of the medi-bag on match days, as the sight of him approaching clutching a cold wet sponge is enough to get most players to their feet in double quick time. When not involved in coaching the u 17 / 18 / 19 s he leads a double life as Club President.
