Lincoln defeated Grimsby 37 - 5, but although that was a heavy defeat the score does not give a true reflection of the game. Grimsby started at a disadvantage when their Captain Ben Pharaoh did not make it through the warm-up session due to the effects of a heavy cold. Lincoln played down the slope in the first half and got ahead with two penalties. Grimsby had the opportunity to pull back, likewise with two penalties, but fly half Lee Spall was unlucky not to convert, hitting the posts with one attempt. Lincoln then went further ahead with a converted try which they followed with two more, leaving the score at half time 27 - 0 to the home side.
Grimsby came out fighting in the second half, but another successful penalty kick from Lincoln and the sin-binning of veteran lock Nige Kempthorne put Grimsby on the back foot again. The Blues pulled back with a try from wing James Bowen after Ed Studd was brought on from the bench at outside centre and injected some pace into the Grimsby backline, setting up the try for Bowen. Lincoln then scored another try which they converted to seal the game. So the second half score was only 10 - 5 to Lincoln!!!
