Grimsby U15s 60 Goole U15s 0

Grimsby Rugby Union Club's new Under 15 team won its first game of the season in style. This year they had lost all four games but the club hope this is the start of a run of success. The conditions underfoot were like the pitch had just been ploughed.

Grimsby won the toss and elected to receive the kick-off and set the ball up for the new partnership of McCreath and Watson to spin it out to the back line, where the centre partnership of the Waterman twins, Adam and Ashley, with direct running and some sweet inter-passing, sent Ashley North in for one of his three tries in the first half. The conversion was taken by Adam Waterman, his first of five successful kicks. Grimsby were playing some quality rugby with Scott Cressy winning a lot of ball from the lineouts. With half-time creeping up, Grimsby scored another try with the ever-present Cressy getting his first of three.

The second half started as the first half had finished, with Cressy getting his second try. Grimsby were in complete control. The next tries came from second row Gareth West and Martin Benefer, number eight, using their explosive pace to crash over the line. Winger Jamie Elder got in on the act with his first try for the club. Man of the match was Cressy for his hat-trick, picking up a lost ball and powering over the line. The final try came from Ashley Waterman.

 Lincoln U15’s  29  Grimsby U15’ 7

Grimsby started well after losing the toss. Playing down the hill with the wind and rain at their backs, Grimsby got a penalty out on the right but just missed it. Lincoln then came back into the game and scored to make it 5-0. Grimsby then started to play and soon got the try with Waterman crashing over the line with the Grimsby pack on his back. The conversion was kicked by Morris. The opposition knew they were in a contest now half-time came and Grimsby were 7-5 up.

Lincoln started the better with the conditions to their advantage, with the wind and rain driving down into the faces of the Grimsby players. The opposition kicked into the corner and got a try to make 12-7. With the help of the referee's bad decisions Grimsby got frustrated but stuck at the job in hand. Grimsby defensive work was working because Lincoln were having to make changes because of the hard hitting Wakefield and his partner in crime Cressy who tackled if their lives depended on it. Grimsby then started to pin the opposition in their 22 with number 8 Benefer trying eveything he could to get over the line but the Lincoln defence held strong. With 10 minutes left Grimsby lost a player to a yellow card for a professional foul. The opposition then pinned Grimsby down in the 22 and finally Lincoln scored 3 more tries and a conversion to make it 29-7. I would like to thank everyone who came to the game and coaches for their help so far. Special mention goes to all the lads for the hard work that they are doing. Keep It Up.
